Pre-Season Outlook
Rice is perhaps the riskiest fantasy pick of 2024, and not because of anything that happened between the lines last year. The 2023 second-round pick put up 79-938-7 on 102 in his rookie season while making his living on screens and quick passes, ranking 21st among qualified WRs with 2.08 yards per route. Rice has the requisite size (6-1, 204) and decent enough speed (4.51 40) to make more impact downfield this season, but it's unclear how many games he'll play now that he's facing criminal charges for a hit-and-run, six-car accident. The March 30 incident got a lot of publicity and quite frankly made Rice look terrible, so a multi-game suspension is all but guaranteed. The NFL usually allows players to take the field while legal processes play out, but Rice's incident may be serious enough to land him on the commissioner's exempt list, i.e., indefinite paid leave. Even if that doesn't happen, it's possible his legal situation is settled before or during the 2024 season, in which case a league suspension likely would follow within a few weeks.

Likely to be suspended
Rice is likely facing a multi-game suspension for his involvement in a car crash in late March, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Analysis: Rice left the scene of a six-car accident on a Dallas highway and now faces charges for aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury and collision involving injury. While he figures to be suspended at some point, the NFL typically allows legal processes to play out before doling out league punishment, which means it's possible Rice is on the field come Week 1.

Expected to participate in virtual meetings
Coach Andy Reid indicated Monday that Rice is expected to remotely participate in the initial stage of the Chiefs' voluntary offseason program via virtual meetings, NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Per Adam Teicher of ESPN.com, Rice -- who is is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury stemming from his involvement in a car crash in Dallas last month -- turned himself in to police last week and was subsequently released on bond. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the league has been closely monitoring developments related to the incident, while Reid noted that it remains to be seen…read more

Arrest warrant issued
An arrest warrant for Rice has been issued stemming from a March 30 chain-reaction collision on a Dallas highway that involved a vehicle the wide receiver was driving, Grant Gordon of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: The report adds that Rice now faces eight counts -- aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury -- as a result of the incident, which left four people with minor injuries. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the league has been closely monitoring developments regarding the incident, with previous reports relaying that Rice intended to continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities.

Cooperating with police
Rice's attorney said Monday that the wide receiver is cooperating with police after a vehicle registered to him was involved in a multi-car crash Saturday evening, Jamie Stengle of The Associated Press reports.
Analysis: It isn't yet clear if Rice was in one of the two cars responsible for causing a six-car crash. If so, he could face criminal charges, as drivers and passengers from a Lamborghini SUV and a Corvette allegedly left the scene of the accident without providing information or seeing if anyone needed medical attention. The crash isn't believed to have involved any serious injuries, though two occupants of another vehicle were taken to a hospital for further attention.

Sought in crash investigation
Dallas police are searching for Rice in connection with a major multi-vehicle traffic collision that occurred Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The accident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. locale time, and at this time, it's unclear whether anyone was hurt in the crash or to what extent Rice was involved. According to Kelli Smith and R.J. Coyle of The Dallas Morning News, a vehicle involved in the collision is believed to be registered or leased to the Kansas City receiver, though the report also notes that Rice didn't appear in Dallas County jail records as of Sunday, and it's also unclear whether he's facing charges. Six catches in Super Bowl
Rice recorded six receptions (on eight targets) for 39 yards in Sunday's 25-22 overtime win over the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. He added two rushes for five yards.
Analysis: Rice finished second on the team in targets behind Travis Kelce, which turned into an uninspiring yardage total. However, Rice notched a pair of impactful receptions on the Chiefs' game-winning drive in overtime, the latter of which was a 13-yard gain on third down to get the offense into 49ers territory. The effort concluded a strong second half of the season for the rookie pass catcher, as he commanded at least eight targets in eight of Kansas City's last 10 games including playoffs. Rice…read more

Avoids injury designation
Rice (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's Super Bowl matchup with the 49ers.
Analysis: The rookie sandwiched full practices Wednesday and Friday around a limited session Thursday. He was initially listed with one ankle injury and now is listed with both, but it seems neither is bad enough to threaten his availability for the big game. Rice has been Kansas City's clear No. 1 WR since mid-season, routinely leading the group in snaps, routes, targets and yards while the other guys mostly have rotated. Tending to injured ankles
Rice was a limited practice participant Thursday due to injured ankles.
Analysis: Until Thursday's practice report, Rice was listed as a full participant with an ankle issue, but the Chiefs expanded that to the plural ankles just three days before Super Bowl LVIII. The rookie wide receiver thus will have one more chance to return to all activity or else potentially be in danger of heading into the weekend with a designation for Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Garners nine targets in win
Rice had eight receptions (on nine targets) for 46 yards in Sunday's 17-10 win over the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
Analysis: Rice finished second in receiving for Kansas City behind tight end Travis Kelce (11-116-1) while logging his fifth game of eight-plus receptions dating back to the team's bye in Week 11 of the regular season. The second-round rookie actually produced one less yard than he did against the Bills in the AFC divisional round despite doubling his reception total from that win. Rice has produced a receiving line of 20-223-1 across three playoff games as the Chiefs prepare to face the winner of the…read more

Held to 47 yards
Rice recorded four receptions on four targets for 47 yards in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Bills.
Analysis: Rice had his opportunity curtailed by the Chiefs' overall volume, as the team ran only 47 offensive plays compared to 78 for the Bills. As a result, he saw his lowest target total since Week 9, and he failed to surpass 50 receiving yards for the first time since Week 11. Rice will face another tough test in the AFC Championship Game, as he'll square off against a Baltimore secondary that allowed the ninth-fewest yards to opposing wide receivers.

Big performance in wild-card round
Rice recorded eight receptions on 12 targets for 130 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 26-7 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Rice was the Chiefs' top pass catcher by any measure Saturday. He kicked off the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown reception on the team's first offensive possession, and he also chipped in three receptions of at least 20 yards. With the performance, he now has at least 90 receiving yards in four of his last seven games. Rice suffered a brief injury scare early in the third quarter but was able to return to the game and should be ready to go for Kansas City's divisional-round matchup.

Practices fully Tuesday
Rice (hamstring) was a full practice participant Tuesday.
Analysis: While Rice managed the hamstring injury, Kansas City held him out of practice for the entirety of Week 18 prep before he was inactive for Sunday's 13-12 win over the Chargers. Even if he hadn't been nursing the injury, Rice may have played only limited snaps, as the AFC West champs opted to rest other key contributors such as quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce while the team was locked in as the No. 3 seed in the conference. Sitting out in Week 18
Rice (hamstring) is listed as out for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Rice is one of four players the Chiefs have ruled out for Week 18 due to injury-related reasons, though with Kansas City having already been assured the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs, other key contributors like quarterback Patrick Mahomes are expected to be rested for most or all of the game. Provided he doesn't experience a setback with his hamstring during practices next week, Rice should be good to go for the Chiefs' home game during the wild-card round of the playoffs. Still not practicing
Rice (hamstring) won't practice Thursday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Analysis: Rice also missed Wednesday's session, so the wideout now has one more opportunity to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Chargers. Either way, with the Chiefs locked into the AFC's No. 3 playoff seed, Rice is a candidate to be held out by the team in Week 18.

Sidelined for practice Wednesday
Rice won't practice Wednesday due to a hamstring injury, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Analysis: Rice wasn't known to be tending to an injury coming out of this past Sunday's 25-17 win over the Bengals, during which he recorded five catches for 127 yards. Though his lack of activity to begin Week 18 prep isn't ideal, Rice will be a candidate to sit out this Sunday's regular-season finale versus the Chargers or see a reduced workload regardless of his health. Second 100-yard performance
Rice recorded five receptions on six targets for 127 yards in Sunday's 25-17 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: Despite having targets split fairly evenly across several pass catchers, Rice emerged as the top pass catcher for the Chiefs in Sunday's win. His most impactful play of the game was a 67-yard catch down the right sideline late in the third quarter when he got behind the Bengals' secondary to help set up a field goal. That play also marked Rice's longest gain of the season and helped him to his second 100-yard performance in his last six contests. He also has three touchdowns in that span.

Sets franchise record Monday
Rice caught six of 12 targets for 57 yards in Monday's 20-14 loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: The rookie saw a season high in targets and led Kansas City in catches and receiving yards, but Patrick Mahomes didn't have enough time in the pocket to let many downfield routes develop for Rice. The wideout still hauled in enough passes to set a new franchise rookie record for receptions in a season, with his 74 (and counting) surpassing Dwayne Bowe's 70 catches from 2007. Rice also has 811 yards, giving him an outside chance at breaking Bowe's record of 995 from that same season, but he'll…read more

Finds end zone in Week 15 win
Rice caught all nine of his targets for 91 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: The rookie has completed his transformation into Patrick Mahomes' favorite wideout, leading Kansas City in targets, catches and receiving yards, but Rice's TD reception Sunday came on an Andy Reid special in the red zone -- Jerick McKinnon took a direct snap and flipped it to the crossing Rice for an easy score. Hauls in sixth TD
Rice caught seven of 10 targets for 72 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: The rookie wideout led Kansas City in catches and tied Travis Kelce for the team lead in targets, although the tight end produced more yardage. Rice scored his sixth TD of the season on a four-yard strike from Patrick Mahomes late in the third quarter, and he's caught at least seven passes in three straight games -- his three highest-volume performances of the year, a stretch in which Rice has delivered a 23-243-2 line on 29 targets. Rice recorded eight receptions on nine targets for 64 yards in Sunday's 27-19 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Rice led the team in targets for the second consecutive week and has combined to see 19 opportunities in that span. While Sunday's performance wasn't his most efficient, he still managed to reach 60 yards for the fourth time in his last seven games after doing so only once in his first five contests of the campaign. First 100-yard game of career
Rice finished with eight receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown off of 10 targets in Sunday's 31-17 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: Rice put it all together for his best performance as a pro against the Raiders on Sunday. The second-round rookie finished as the Chiefs' leading receiver while recording the first game with 100 or more receiving yards of his career. Rice was already separating himself from the pack as star quarterback Patrick Mahomes' No. 2 option behind Travis Kelce prior to Sunday's breakout, so make sure Rice isn't sitting on the fantasy waiver wire as Kansas City prepares to face Green Bay next Sunday.

Four catches in losing effort
Rice secured four of five targets for 42 yards in the Chiefs' 21-17 loss to the Eagles on Monday night.
Analysis: Rice finished third in receptions, receiving yards and targets during another serviceable yet unremarkable performance. The rookie is up to a 36-420-4 line through 10 games, numbers that arguably qualify as above average in a passing attack that is notorious for spreading the wealth among its deep group of skill-position assets. Rice has at least four grabs in five of the last six contests heading into a Week 12 road divisional clash versus the Raiders.

Salvages day with TD
Rice caught both his targets for 17 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-14 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: The receiving yards were his lowest of the season, but the rookie wideout still made an impact by taking a screen pass from Patrick Mahomes for an 11-yard TD in the first quarter. Rice has three of his four touchdowns on the season in the last five games as he emerges as Mahomes' most reliable option not named Travis Kelce, and his target volume could begin to rise coming out of Kansas City's Week 10 bye.

Finishes second in yards for KC
Rice caught four of five targets for 56 yards in Sunday's 24-9 loss to Denver.
Analysis: Rice finished second in receiving for the Chiefs behind Travis Kelce (6-58-0) in a rare game during which star quarterback Patrick Mahomes failed to throw a touchdown pass and turned the ball over three times. Another touchdown in Week 7 win
Rice brought in five of six targets for 60 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' 31-17 win over the Chargers on Sunday.
Analysis: The rookie continued his recent ascension, scoring his second touchdown in three game on a six-yard grab just before the midway point of the second quarter. Rice also eclipsed the 50-yard mark through the air for the second straight week while pushing his reception total over the last three games to a solid 13 catches. Encouraging numbers in Week 6 win
Rice brought in all four targets for 72 yards in the Chiefs' 19-8 win over the Broncos on Thursday night.
Analysis: Rice finished second in receiving yards on the night for the Chiefs with a figure that was also his best over the first six games of his career. The speedy rookie has been fairly consistent in a passing game that runs first and foremost through Travis Kelce and often spreads the ball around pretty widely otherwise, recording at least three receptions in all but one contest and snagging a pair of touchdowns. Grabs TD in Week 5 win
Rice caught four of five targets for 33 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: The rookie wideout was on the other end of an eight-yard TD strike from Patrick Mahomes early in the third quarter to break open a 13-13 halftime tie. It's the second score of Rice's career so far, but the 2023 second-round pick still has yet to reach 60 receiving yards in a game as Mahomes continues to spread the ball around. Finishes second in targets Sunday
Rice had three catches on five targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Rice finished with a pedestrian stat line in a rare down game from Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City's aerial attack. The defending Super Bowl champions still got the win, and the rookie wideout maintained his role as one of the team's primary options behind star tight end Travis Kelce. Rice's five targets only trailed Kelce's nine, which shows the trust Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid have in him just four games into his pro career. Narrowly misses TD
Rice caught five of seven targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 41-10 win over Chicago.
Analysis: Rice appeared to have scored the second touchdown of his young career on a 14-yard reception early in the second quarter, but replay review overturned the score, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire punched it in on the ensuing play. It was still a strong performance from Rice, who finished second behind Travis Kelce in receptions, targets and yardage Sunday. Rice secured both of his targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 17-9 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Rice played just 12 of the Chiefs' 67 offensive snaps, behind fellow wideouts Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson and Kadarius Toney. The rookie second-round pick found the end zone in his NFL debut in Week 1, but his snap share took a dip in Week 2. Scores in NFL debut
Rice brought in three of five targets for 29 yards and a touchdown and rushed once for minus-3 yards in the Chiefs' 21-20 loss to the Lions on Thursday night.
Analysis: The rookie found a way to make an immediate impact, recording a one-yard touchdown grab early in the second quarter for the Chiefs' first points of the new season. Rice finished tied for second in receptions and for the lead in targets on a night where Patrick Mahomes spread the ball around to 11 different players in the absence of Travis Kelce (knee). Analysis: Veach used the term "package player" to describe Rice and Justyn Ross, while 2022 second-round pick Skyy Moore was said to have earned an "every-down" role. Rice, a 2023 second-round selection, had the fifth-most receiving yards (155) in the NFL this preseason, but he spent significant time playing with backups and dropped two or three passes in the Chiefs' final exhibition. Ends preseason poorly
Rice recorded three receptions on six targets for 29 yards in Saturday's 33-32 preseason win over the Browns.
Analysis: The good news about Rice's performance is that he was open and commanded targets, as he tied for the team lead with six looks. The bad news is that he failed to take advantage of that opportunity due to drops, with one being a potentially long touchdown down the right sideline. Rice has primarily been impressive in the first summer of his professional career, though it appears he'll enter the season behind Kadarius Toney (knee), Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore in priority for targets.

Spectacular showing in win
Rice brought in eight of nine targets for 96 yards in the Buccaneers' 38-10 preseason win over the Cardinals on Saturday night. He also fumbled once but recovered.
Analysis: The rookie second-round pick enjoyed a breakout performance, especially by preseason standards. Rice's receiving line comfortably led the Chiefs across the board, and only one of his receptions actually came in conjunction with Patrick Mahomes. Rice's big workload isn't necessarily a reflection of what might be expected during the regular season, but as he demonstrated Saturday, he certainly has no shortage of upside in a Mahomes-helmed offense that spreads the ball around.

Rice caught three of four targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 26-24 preseason loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Rice's first catch came from Blaine Gabbert on Kansas City's second drive of the game. Although only Nikko Remigio made more receptions for the Chiefs than Rice, the rookie second-rounder dropped a pass and committed a false start during his time on the field. With Kadarius Toney (knee) likely sidelined for the preseason, Rice will strive to eliminate mistakes and continue pushing for more action in next Sunday's exhibition contest versus the Cardinals.

Should see more opportunities
Rice could see a bigger role during training camp while Kadarius Toney (knee) is sidelined, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Rice was picked 55th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, after Kansas City traded up nine spots to grab him. In his last season at SMU, the physical wideout racked up 96 receptions for 1,355 yards and 10 touchdowns. Toney has an uncertain recovery timeline from his partially torn meniscus, which paves the way for other options like Rice to try and establish some chemistry with Patrick Mahomes.
